MUMBAI: Several NRI candidates aspiring to take admission in the MBBS programme in Indian med schools have found that they have not made it to the list of eligible candidates. Parents of NRI students who found their names missing on the list, released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on Saturday, are now scrambling to find out what went wrong and how they can fix it.
Vikas Aher, a parent from UAE, said they have tried contacting the MCC helpline several times and emailed the office too, but they have not heard back from them. “We submitted all the requisite documents. But my son’s name is missing from the list. We have written to the MCC but there is no response. Sitting in another country, we are going through so much stress,” he said.
“Every document is stamped by the Indian consulate here. But we are shocked that among the list of records to be submitted, the family tree has to be stamped by the local tehsildar. How do I get to a tehsildar sitting in the UAE?” said Aher. He is not alone. Parent representative Sudha Shenoy said several genuine NRI candidates’ names are missing from the fresh list. “Screening of NRI candidates’ documents is needed but at the same time the reason for rejection should be given,” she added. “Earlier, MCC used to give details of missing documents. Students who submitted the requisite documents would make it to the final list. But this time merely a final list was released,” said a parent from London. Despite attempts to contact MCC officials on the matter, none were available for comment
